SYNOPSIS

The story begins in Vasskolis around seven to nine months after the end of the last adventure. You go to meet the leadership trio out on the banks of the river, but Gnass shows up, and Legare works his miracle, parting the river. You and the expedition cross the river, setting up the first camp. From there, you must explore and clear the way to the next camp.

You are sent to scout ahead. After clearing away a significant amount of monsters, you discover a city undergoing a minor renaissance (like the Carolingian one), where you catch a glimpse of some of the glory of the ancient homeland. You return and journey with the expedition as they travel to this city, where they stay as you continue to scout ahead. You find another location where they can stop, so you go back and lead them there. You continue to find locations where they can stop, notable for their lack of horrible monsters, but eventually the expedition comes close to running out of supplies.

Then, in some sort of parallel with the manna story in the Bible, you and Legare secure food for the followers. In gratitude for the manna, and in anticipation of the laws that are about to be handed down (i.e. the Ten Commandments), the expedition must build a mobile shrine (i.e. the tabernacle) with a container for the law (i.e. the Ark of the Covenant). You must fetch increasingly strange and difficult-to-acquire materials for its construction, and doubt begins to rise in the expedition about the existence of the Goddess, who, after all, has never actually been seen.

Then Legare and the rest of the expedition get involved in a public confrontation (which is probably the longest cut scene in the scenario) at the newly-finished movable shrine, before the high altar. Many denounce the Goddess and refuse to believe in her, and Legare, horrified at this blasphemy, retreats to a nearby mountain. You have to go fetch him and bring him back down.

He returns to camp with new commandments from the Goddess and with a plan. At a public ceremony, he prays to the Goddess, and, unexpectedly (at least to the audience), the Goddess inhabits the body of Ethass. Ethass delivers a stunning oration and demonstration of power, and no one in the crowd is left unbelieving, but some still question. One asks who the Goddess really is. She gives a brief, vague answer that includes a name. Pithoss identifies her as the consort of Grah-Hoth (which he would know, since he used to be a follower of Grah-Hoth). The scene quickly turns ugly, and Legare denounces the Goddess in rage. Ethass (as the Goddess) proclaims that he will never reach the homeland alive and flees.

Terrible omens now plague the expedition, the horrors of the Goddess's anger. It falls to you to find Ethass and rescue her from wherever she is and whatever predicament she's in. Finally, when you do find her and rescue her, Legare shows up, and he dies.

When you bring Ethass back to the expedition, all are struck hard by the news of Legare's death, and Ethass (as the Goddess) explains that there is a portal to the Land of the Dead nearby (bringing to mind both the Odyssey and the Aeneid). You journey to it, and once inside, you eventually find Legare, whose final message is that you should go on, and whose final wish is to be buried in the homeland itself. With that, you exit the Land of the Dead, and you return to the expedition. You make your way a short distance farther and reach the main stretch of the homeland. At the homeland, the story ends.
